BIO
I am Professor of Theatre and Performance at Camberwell, Chelsea, Wimbledon and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
Prior to joining UAL, I was Professor of Theatre and Performance at Aberystwyth University, where I co-directed the Performance and Politics international research centre (PPi). My research focuses on the relationship between politics and performance, and on theatre-making as a form of critical social practice.
As a cultural commentator, I have written for The Guardian, and been interviewed by John Humphrys on BBC Radio 4's Today Programme, and by Vanessa Feltz on BBC Radio London's Breakfast Programme.
At UAL I have been responsible for developing the Acting and Performance programme, contributing to the establishment of Wimbledon as a centre for excellence in performance research, pedagogy, and practice.
I have supervised 14 PhDs to successful completion, with all of my former students now holding academic posts.
