BIO

The work of Dr. Mila Burcikova focuses on alternatives to the current fashion system. Through her research and knowledge exchange practice Dr. Mila Burcikova explores and generates new systems approaches to how fashion is conceived, made, perceived, and enjoyed in everyday life. Her current projects investigate the connections between fashion and agriculture, rural and urban fashion systems, and the role of time and cyclical patterns in sustainable living. In addition, through her continuing ethnographic and practice research on emotional durability of clothing, she develops the concept of mundane fashion. Mundane Fashion serves as a metaphor for a holistic understanding of how fashion’s deeply personal, cultural, social, and environmental implications are experienced in people's everyday lives
