BIO

Tina Gverović works with installation, drawing, painting, sound, text and video.
In her work Gverović engages with space, territory and identity, and considers how these concepts are bound to imagination. She reworks the way she understands the political and the poetic, in unexpected areas and without direct confrontation.
Politics and poetics are central to her research, understanding them as overlapping and exchangeable rather than mutually exclusive she seeks this overlapping in unexpected places. Her work, often taking the form of immersive and disorientating installations, explores the economy and history of materials. One of the key questions in her work is where lies the potential of the political vision and re-invention?
Gverović completed a doctorate in Visual Arts at Middlesex University. Her research investigates issues of cultural and national identity, migration, forms of memorialising, belonging, conflict and loss. She held teaching posts at Slade School of Arts, Dutch Art Institute Roaming Academy, and WHW Academy in Zagreb. She is co-director of artist initiative Tkivo based in the South of Croatia.
Her work is regularly exhibited nationally and internationally. She has shown at the Suzhou Biennial (China), WKV Stuttgart (Germany), Museum of Modern Art Dubrovnik (Croatia), Museum of Contemporary Art Belgrade (Serbia), Busan Biennial (Korea) Tate Modern and Tate Britain (both London). Her public art commissions are installed in the University of Reading campus and Folkestone harbour.
She represented Croatia at the 57th Venice Biennale with the installation Phantom Trades: Sea of People at the Croatian Pavilion, and she was nominated for the Art Prize Zürich.
